Gelerama

Late Summer 2022

This collection of photos is highlighting the stunning nature of Long Eddy, NY. It is named after Gelerama, a Lenape woman who remained living in a house made of stone hidden away in the mountains, even after the rest of her people were driven away. She generously shared her wisdom of foraging and medicinal herbs with settlers she befriended, Hetty LaValley and Lucy Ann/Joseph Lobdell. She did eventually leave her home upon the insistence of a visiting member of her tribe, but I feel her spirit is still here, protecting it.
